DENISE PURDY

Denise's work explores the qualities of mark-making with layers of tone, texture and colour.  She enjoys the spontaneous and intuitive process of monotype printmaking.  When combined with a dry point or polymer etching plate, this technique allows her to experiment as she works, keeping the results fresh and often unpredictable.

She exhibits regularly with other printmakers as part of Bodenpress, a printmaking studio run by Helen Boden in Chesham.  In Berkhamsted, she is involved in the team running The Upstairs Gallery, and also curates the art space in HERE Cafe - a modern, relaxed setting which lends itself beautifully to showing contemporary artwork.

LINDSAY WARING

Lindsay enjoys working in many different mediums but is currently exploring the properties of
wire. This medium ignites her creative ideas.  She keeps true to the material, utilising its translucent quality.

The way she works wire, free hand and with few layers, allows each piece to be light, fluid and full of life whilst not compromising its strength and durability.  She also tries, where possible, to incorporate a subtle kinetic element.

Her human forms tend to portray emotion with a contemporary flavour, expressing the complexities of relationships.

However, she doesn’t always take herself so seriously.  ‘Sculpture should be fun!  Fun to make and fun to look at.  I hope I achieve this whilst making people ponder the subject.’

Lindsay is currently taking commissions.

LAURIE KECK

Laurie's early inspiration came from visits to the Chelsea Flower Show. He was fascinated to see how art can complement and enhance plants and design. His wife was a Garden Designer and his early pots were made for garden settings, including planters, birds and water features.

He discovered coiling techniques early on and most of his pots are made using that method. There are no limits to the form and coiling can be used very creatively. The process of making pots, working with his hands, the physical nature of clay and how it can be transformed, are all crucial to his interest in ceramics.

His pots reflect aspects of his personality. There can be humour, the product of experimentation, personal challenge and a fascination with style. He is currently exploring form, texture and colour. He still produces pieces for garden settings but, increasingly, for internal display too.

His philosophy is to make pieces that please him and then, perhaps, they might please others. Through study and exploration, he is working towards the development of his own personal style. His inspiration comes from the world around him and from the many potters who continually open his eyes to new possibilities.
